Some thoughts on being the lead on an Action Research project in another country. Picture this, 3 projects were planned and scheduled, 2 meetings provided networking and when one day became free, the repair and organization of broken computers became important; all in 7 days. What I know so far is that: 1) the feeling of accomplishment makes it worth it, 2) I have more energy than I knew, 3) team work is essential, and 4) it requires a brand new job description, quite different from being an online instructor. Skills needing to impart included listening, flexibility, reflecting, putting aside “expertise” in favor of solutions from other disciplines, and opening up students to different experiences and worlds. Sometimes that required more patience than I ever thought I had and finding the key phrases and words that provided a basis for such a big, differentiated team to work.
